Fuel on board and a burn rate give your total endurance and range. Set a reserve and it is held back, so you also see what is genuinely usable for the trip.

applicable GACAR operating rule — confirm it for your operation, and always
plan with the aircraft's actual figures.
The minimum fuel reserve is set by the regulations — see GACAR Part 91 →.
